Buffeting be gone! | ||
| The best part of the internet after porn is the free exchange of information. I can't imagine not having it around. To this end I found that my Arai XD was getting seriously buffeted by the wind coming over the screen of the 950. I could use a standard helmet and it would be fine but the XD's visor would resonate horribly on the 950. If you stood it was fine or if you tucked it was fine but I considered those awkward solutions. The wonderful Orange Crush list had a topic about butteting and after reading that thread, related ones on the GS list and various papers on the net I thought I'd give these ducts a try. I called McKinney Corp and spoke to the women there who told me that most of the drag racers use two 2" ducts on their screens. Being easily suggestable and not as fast I got two for a test. My placement was based on space considerations - I didn't want to crowd them closer to the top. I marked out the screen and made a template and then dremmeled the shapes out. The top and bottom should be beveled to be true "naca" ducts. Since the screen isn't truly flat I trimmed the edges of the duct and glued it in with silicon. So far it works a treat. My first ride was so smooth I forgot that there was ever a problem so I went back out to really pay attention to the air. Much smoother up to 80-90mph and the helmet doesn't vibrate and blur my eyes.
