One of the great things about BMW bikes is the heated grips. It was something I didn't want to give up having crossed several snowy passes in Colorado in May. I was a bit dubious of the kits to turn stock grips into electric ones but I found a good kit at California Sport Touring for the bargin price of $26.95. The kit is fairly simple to wire up and I tapped into the Acc. 1 lead that KTM provides under the dash. Just remove the 5 screws holding the side fairing on. From there you simply unplug the vent lines and single wires and set the fairing aside. The headlight cowl comes off simply by lifting the upper tabs over the Pem nut for the fairings top mount and unpluggin the light - couldn't be easier. The only thing to remember is to wrap the left bar with a few turns of electrical tape before you put the heating elements onto the bars. |
