The bike created quite a stir at the National. It's hard to say how much attention the bike drew from it's unconventional design and look and how much it drew from the sound - the bike is loud in a very un-BMW sort of way. My father came from Colorado and had seen the bike in progress but the finished product really blew him away. On Thursday we met with Phil Rose who was organizing the bike show and he set us up with a spot and then folks started to come by for a look at the bike. Everyone really seemed to love the bike - even those that didn't know much about bikes or didn't recognize the work that went into building it. We won the "Sports Modified" category but we were totally elated when we also won the final award: "Judges Choice". That was "...the bike that the judges would most like to ride home on..." among all the bikes entered in the entire show. Wow! Below Scott and I are accepting the "Judges Choice" award from Bob Henig of Bob's BMW. Even more fun than the awards was the ride later that afternoon where we finally got the chance to really flog the bike on the twisty roads of the Catskills. Switching bikes among us the R bike had more in common with Scott's 900SS Ducati than Todd's R100RS. At low speed it seems very tight but at speeds over 80-100 mph the bike really shines, holding it's line with absolute confidence. That was maybe the best part of all - knowing we made a bike that really works like we'd hoped it would. Now there's talk of going to Daytona... | |||||
